Marketing Tips to Jump Start Your Small Business

When you have a new business, it’s imperative that it gets off to a strong start. Otherwise, it could be mired in financial challenges that could be difficult, if not impossible to recover from.
If you’re just starting out and you need some fresh ideas for jump-starting your business, take a look at these three ideas. These techniques are inexpensive and simple and yet get amazing results.

1. SEO and Freebies

If you’re going to have any kind of blog at all, you want to get very comfortable with SEO (search engine optimization) as a marketing tool. Fortunately, there are some simple ways to incorporate SEO into your content marketing plans.

To make the most of the SEO you will get from your blog, and you want to concentrate on two things, the right keyword phrases and getting backlinks. Keyword phrases are phrases that your site’s visitors will use to find your content. For example, if you offer counseling services in your town, include phrases like “counseling services in [name of your city]” or “[name of your city] counseling” in your blog posts and on other pages on your site. The more phrases that you and your searchers have in common, the more likely those searchers are to find you and your website.

Backlinks are links that you get from other people linking back to your site. Some of them will come from social media shares, but if you have attracted the attention of say, a blogger in your niche, it’s likely that that blogger will link to an article that he/ she likes of yours. Get enough of those kinds of links, and the search engines will pay attention to you.

2. Newsletters and Mailing Lists

Typically speaking, your email list has the best chance of bringing you tons of business, especially if it’s filled with people who have already purchased from you. And it’s a really great tool to use if you have a newsletter. However, to make the most of this marketing tool, it’s better to narrow the focus of your email newsletter to one highly specific topic.

3. Twitter Engagement

Twitter searches can provide you with a ton of potential business leads if you know how to use hashtags properly. Take one apartment rental company in New York. Although the company only has about 200 followers on Twitter, it garners at least 100 viable leads each month by using Twitter hashtags to its advantage.

Here’s how it works. The company uses the Twitter search function to find people lamenting about their apartment rental woes. The rental company then contacts the Twitter user, giving him/ her a link to some rental properties that might be appropriate for that user. About half of the people contacted this way wind up renting an apartment from the rental company.
